The application of CpMoO2Cl and related high valent Mo compounds as oxidation catalysts is surprisingly limited since these are very early examples of organometallic oxides.  The catalytic activity of the cis-MoO2 fragment in oxidation and oxygen transfer reactions is well established.  The dicarbonyl{[2-(diphenylphosphino)ethyl]cyclopentadienyl} group VI metal hydrides (M = Cr, Mo, W) react with haloforms (CHX3, X = Cl, Br, I) resulting in hydrogen-halogen exchange, affording dicarbonyl{[2-(diphenylphosphino)ethyl]cyclopentadienyl} group VI metal halides.  The formulations of the new M'-H (M' = Cr, W) and M-X (M = Cr, X = I; M = Mo, X = Cl, Br, I; M = W, X = Br) complexes have been unambiguously confirmed in solution and the solid-state.  This poster focuses on the syntheses and characterization details for these new complexes.  The Mo-X complexes are precursors for olefin epoxidation catalysts for cyclooctene and 1-dodecene with tert-butyl hydrogen peroxide as oxidizing agent.  The catalyst activities increase as I < Br < Cl.
