Because of advances in new materials, the addition of nanoparticles to polymers is a promising approach for improved energy storage devices.  In this present work, nano-particles of BaTiO3 were added to polycarbonate (PC).  PC has good mechanical properties and it has a relatively high glass transition temperature, Tg, of about 150� C.  To compensate for the low PC dielectric constant (e = 2.96), the high dielectric constant BaTiO3 (e = 3300) was added.  Because the composite material is of interest for use in capacitors, the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant, e ' and e�, and dielectric breakdown were studied in detail.  Comparison of dielectric permittivity vs. volume fraction of BaTiO3 in light of recent work on a modified Hanai equation is explored.  Thermal and spectroscopic characterizations techniques were also used.
