The palladium-catalyzed �-carboelimination of tertiary alcohols has been observed from cyclopropanols, cyclobutanols and a number of other systems. We have disclosed a number of strategic applications of this fundamental process in cross-coupling reactions. In this talk I will describe our recent advances in the application of alkyl- and arylpalladium intermediates derived from tertiary alcohols towards the synthesis of carbocyclic and heterocyclic systems.
