Nanoparticles of non-spherical shape exhibit plasmon resonance in the infrared region (IR) of the electromagnetic spectrum. Hence they are ideal candidates for biomedical applications in targeted vivo imaging, diagnostics, and cancer therapy since the biological tissue is transparent to near IR radiations. For this purpose, we perform MD simulation of the gold nanoparticles as nanocube, nanocage, nanocylinder, nanocone, nanostar, and nanorice among others and study their interaction with model lipid bilayer. It is known that charged nanoparticles penetrate the lipid bilayer forming holes leading to cyotoxicity. We will provide estimates of the cell-membrane damage and the energy barrier for the penetration of the nanoshapes. Combined effect of nanoshape and charge on the translocation of these particles and membrane damage will be discussed.
