Lanthanide-based turn-on luminescent probes for the detection of various enzymes are presented. The probes are constructed from the same framework and are made analyte responsive by the choice of caging group. The uncaging reveals a coumarin antenna which is able to sensitize both Eu and Tb. By varying the lanthanide, multiplex detection of several enzymes is possible.
