This work highlights the successful synthesis of a new three-periodic metal-organic framework (MOF) with unprecedented topology based on (3,4)-connected nodes. We have completed an in-depth study focusing on the structure-function relationship between the framework's unique structural features (corrugation and interpenetration), and the resulting intrinsic photoluminescent properties. The material encompasses broadband white-light emission, which has been rarely observed in MOFs. The tunability of this system was probed by the successful co-doping with various f-block metal ions. This results in significantly improved color properties, nominating the compound for potential solid-state lighting applications. A suite of analytical techniques was used to fully characterize the material, including structure determination from single-crystal X-ray diffraction, TGA-MS analysis, SEM-EDS elemental mapping, and photoluminescence spectra.Sandia National Laboratories is a multi-program lab managed and operated by Sandia Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation, for the US DOE's NNSA under contract DE-AC04-94AL85000.
