The preparation of Mo(NR)(=CHR')(OTf)2(bpy) and Mo(NR)(=CHR')(NC4H4)2(bpy) species for a wide variety of imido groups (R = 2,6-i-Pr2C6H3, 2,6-Me2C6H3, adamantyl, 2,6-Cl2C6H3, 2-i-PrC6H4, 2-t-BuC6H4, 2-MesC6H4) is presented here.  The stability of the bispyrrolide complexes, under air, is investigated and the preparation of Mo(NR)(=CHR')(NC4H4)(OAr) complexes from Mo(NR)(=CHR')(NC4H4)2(bpy) is presented as an efficient method for the preparation of active chiral-at-the-metal Schrock catalysts.  Similarly, the preparation of Mo(NR)(=CR')(2,5-Me2C4H2N)(bpy) complexes and their use as catalyst precursors is also presented.  The reactivity of all complexes was probed by ROMP of dicarbomethoxynorbornadiene, producing in various cases highly regular cis-syndiotactic polymer.
