The manganese(IV) complex first described by Weinghart et al.  in 1988 is a highly potent activator of H2O2 towards selective oxidation catalysis and industrial bleaching.In this presentation, mechanistic studies of this catalyst in high pH aqueous media, of relevance to cotton and wood pulp bleaching, will be reported. Particular emphasis will be placed on the role of additives and selection of model substrates.
