We are interested in stabilizing high-valent late transition-metal oxo, imido, and nitrido speices. Such species show promise in C�H oxidation reactions (e.g. atom/group transfer) and X�X bond formation (e.g. water oxidation), but become increasingly rare from left to right on the periodic table. In fact, there are no reports of isolable cobalt oxo complexes despite being invoked as key intermediates in cobalt-catalyzed water oxidation. We have reasoned that hetero-tripodal tetradentate monoanionic and dianionic N-NNO and N-NNN ligands should impart stability to such high-valent species, and have developed straightforward routes for their synthesis. Our studies of the coordination chemistry of these ligands and the redox properties of the corresponding transition-metal species will be the subject of this poster.
