Developing energy efficient water treatment technology is a big challenge. We investigated silver modified nano TiO2(AgTiO2) and unmodified nano TiO2 thin films to investigate their catalytic activity towards photodegradation of methyl orange (MO) in the presence of sunlight. The degradation of MO was greater in the presence of the AgTiO2 film than the TiO2  film, and there was negligible degradation by water and sunlight (blank) only. This may be due to catalytic effect of Ag. The catalytic activity was similar during repeated use of AgTiO2  and TiO2,  up to five times. This novel technology may be useful for the degradation of other organic contaminants in aqueous solutions.
