Regenerability of CaO adsorbents for high temperature CO2 capture is improved by incorporating MgO into CaO particles by mechanical milling. Milling intensity and the use of process control agents (i.e., wet or dry conditions) were determined to be the main factors controlling the effectiveness of this method for enhancing the cyclic stability of synthesized sorbents. Samples prepared by wet planetary milling with a 23:77 wt% MgO:CaO composition had the best sorption capacity per unit mass through 15 cycles of carbonation/decarbonation.
