This talk will describe two very different applications of theory to the description of nonadiabatic dynamics. The first is concerned with electron-impact induced photodissociation (and related photodissociation) of the methane molecule, where we emphasize the role of spin-forbidden electronic excitation in making the electron-induced process different from the photo-induced process. The second application is concerned with photoinduced electron transfer to or from a plasmonic nanoparticle. Here the primary issue is the spin-allowed diabatic coupling matrix element between the photoexcited state and the charge-transferred state.
