Estrone and 17�-estradiol are potent environmental endocrine disruptors. While destruction of these molecules by photolysis, both naturally and as part of waste remediation, has been of interest, the details of the photolysis process are not well understood for these molecules. In particular, the dependence of the photolysis on wavelength of light and the solvent environment are largely unknown.  Additionally, many of the photoproduct structures are unknown. This work describes the photoproducts of estrone and 17�-estradiol photolysis using GC-MS and other techniques, as well as their dependence on solvent and photolysis wavelength. Estrone's photolysis is dominated by a single product, which is identified as an isomer of estrone, produced with a faster rate in low polarity solvents. The photoproducts of 17�-estradiol include a large number of isomers and oxidation products, with no one species dominating.
