An assortment of genome guided approaches were used in order to establish possible secondary metabolites biosynthesized by actinomycetes strains.  Metabolic research involving these bacterial strains plays a vital role in the discovery of new molecules with biological activities. Preparation for composing a cosmid library was initiated in order to discover the biosynthetic gene cluster involved in the synthesis of a metabolite that B1-Streptomyces could biosynthesize.  This research was conducted through the NSF-sponsored IREU program.
