For crude oil processing for refining it is necessary to use surfactants to break water/oil emulsions.  The synthesis of polymeric surfactans is implemented by immobilization of sorbitans to copolymers of maleic anhydride. The influence of temperature, process duration, nature of solvent and catalyst on the degree of esterification are investigated.  It was revealed that the polymeric surfactants had high demulsifying activity on the highly paraffinic and highly resinous oil of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Demulsifying ability has been studied and optimal concentrations of demulsifiers have been selected. The demulsification degree of water/oil emulsions was found to be up to 100%.
