Ionic liquids have increasingly been used for the synthesis of nanomaterials such as nanoparticles and composites. A special class of ionic liquid-based hybrid materials based on a continuous matrix and an ionic liquid, termed ionogels, are interesting for a large variety of applications, including but not limited to catalysis, battery technology, and functional thin films. The presentation will outline new developments in the ionogel field with a special focus of (multi)functional ionogels for catalysis and energy-related applications such a fuel cells.
