Coordination polymers [Na(Hidc)(H2idc)(H2O)2] (1  ) and [Na(Hidc)(H2O)] (2  ) (idc = imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylate ) have been synthesized hydrothermally and analyzed by single crystal X-ray analysis. Compound 1  consists of one-dimensional chains of edge-shared {NaO6} octahedral with each sodium binds to two idc ligands  and compound 2  is a two-dimensional network consisting of chains of corner-shared {NaO4N} polyhedral linked by idc ligands .
