The ultimate focus of our research group is to design new devices that utilize the movement of electrons following excitation by light. Part of this goal focuses on the design of extended polymer backbones with tethered bipyridine subunits that can easily incorporate a transition metal chromophore into the backbone of the ensuing polymer. Ultimately these polymers will incorporate both these transition metal subunits and other moieties that incorporate fullerenes, coronenes, and corannulenes as well. This poster examines the synthesis of the repeat unit of our ensuing polymer using several alternative synthetic routes.
