Transition metal complexes formed from dipyrromethene ligands are increasingly common.  The formation of charge neutral complexes with intense absorptions in the visible region of the spectrum has fueled many of these studies as they have interesting spectroscopic properties that can be compared to their porphyrin cousins.  Complexes of dipyrromethenes have led to numerous metal complexes and they increasingly are finding applications as metal organic frameworks.  We have made a series of heteronuclear complexes that contain dipyrromethenes bound to copper or cobalt that are coupled to ferrocene or ruthenocene or which lead to metal organic frameworks.  We report the crystal structures of the complexes and have explored the interactions between the metals.
