The distributions of molecular weight between cross-links (MWBC) for a commercial silicone formulation as a function of gamma irradiation were obtained by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) residual dipolar coupling.  The experimentally obtained MWBC distribution was taken to represent the general MWBC distribution prior to any irradiation. The statistical methodology of population balance was then applied to this starting MWBC distribution to make prediction of its evolution under irradiation.  The agreement between the statistical modeling approach and NMR data is fair and confirms that it is possible to make prediction on the evolution of the distribution of MWBC of polymers under irradiation by applying the methodology of population balance on NMR residual dipolar coupling measurements.
