�Chemical Structures and Properties� has been offered as the introductory course in chemistry at CSB/SJU for the past three years.  This course is mostly non-quantitative and it requires students to become proficient at conceptual and 3D visualization skills different from those introduced in most high school chemistry courses.  Because students might have very little background in these topics, we have introduced pedagogical techniques to help students prepare for class.  Two of these techniques, pre-class assignments on Moodle (an e-learning course management system) and passports (assignments required for admission to class), will be presented along with student evaluation data about the effectiveness of these techniques.
