Titanium and titanium alloys are commonly used in implantable medical devices due to the inherent biocompatibility and corrosion resistance of the spontaneously formed titanium oxide layer.  The process of electropolishing increases the biocompatibility by removing sharp peaks in the metal to encourage the formation of a homogenous and robust oxide layer.  Titanium was electropolished in methanolic sulfuric acid and further processed through passivation and anodization.  Electrochemical analysis was performed on the metal samples to probe the metal for the breakdown potential, corrosion rate, and passive current density in relation to the anodization method applied to the surface.
