Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of highly crystalline, porous materials composed of metal ions or clusters with a bridging organic unit that form a two- or three-dimensional molecular scaffold.  The use of 1,2,4-triazoles as organic linkers in MOFs has recently been investigated due to their versatile coordination modes which allows for a wide variety of pore shapes.  We have synthesized and characterized a series of Copper frameworks utilizing a flexible 1,2,4-triazole ligand which, by isolating and varying reaction conditions, have been shown to have different topologies.  Post modification of the frameworks allows us to shift from one topology to another by adding different metal or organic reagents.
