Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) provide a promising alternative to hydrogen fuelcells based on their chemical and physical properties. After the production of the MOF, these structures must be activated before they can be used. This project is designed to improve upon the process used to remove solvent from a MOF. Using solvent exchange and supercritical drying methods, the MOF was soaked in ethanol, followed by liquid CO2. Next, the sample was taken to a supercritical point at which the CO2 could evaporate. This method of activation was compared to a reference activation method which involved baking the MOF. Spectral data revealed that the supercritical CO2 activation method was more successful than heat activation in solvent removaland in structural changes. An additional study determining the hydrogen absorption quantities of each activation method is required.
