Microgravity crystal growth experiments make use of the reduced acceleration environment provided by an orbiting spacecraft. Its results are considerable when one realizes that the comparisons are always between few microgravity-based experiments and a large number of earth-based experiments.  The crystal growth experiments are small, simply operated, and have a high potential scientific and economic impact. Here we report the effect of a microgravity environment, temperature, and gravitational forces, on the crystal growth of tin from the reaction of aqueous tin(II) chloride with zinc by analyzing the crystals with the use of a scanning electron microscope (SEM).
