Platinum(II) and Palladium(II) porphyrins of the type [MII(ortho-X)4TPP], [MII(meta-X)4TPP] (MII = Pt, Pd), (X = Cl, CH3) (TPP = tetraphenylporphyrin) have been synthesized. The Platinum(IV) porphyrin analogues, [PtIV(ortho-X)4TPP]Cl2, [PtIV(meta-X)4TPP]Cl2, have been synthesized by direct halogenation from their corresponding PtII counterparts by addition of chlorine gas. The complexes have been analyzed by UV-vis and 2-D COSY 1H NMR spectroscopy.
