The synthesis of isostructural compounds of general formula A2[Ln(H2O)4(Pt(CN)4)2]Au(CN)2�2H2O (ALnPtAu), will be the main topic of this presentation. Substitution on the alkali metal site changes the electronic properties of the Au2Pt4 hexameric noble metal clusters in the structures; metal-metal interactions, both Au���Au (aurophilic) and Pt���Au (heterometallic), are likewise affected. Experiments that were performed to examine the electronic and structural properties of these compounds were X-ray diffraction, photoluminescence, and Raman spectroscopy. When comparing (KTbPtAu) to (RbTbPt2Au) for example, the heterometallic Pt���Au bond lengths in the Au2Pt4 cluster expand by 1.05%; this correlates to a red-shift of ~10 nm for the Au2Pt4 emission band in RbTbPtAu relative to KTbPtAu. Ongoing research will explore the temperature effects on the electronic and structural properties in these compounds.
