A polyoxometalate Keggin sandwich of the form [(Co((OH2)2)3)(PW9O34)2]12- served as a nanoscale building block in combination with the complimentary bridging ligand, 4,4'-bipyridine, resulting in an insoluble porous nanoarray of the form [(bipy)3n(Co3(PW9O34)2)2n]12-.  The material product was anazlyzed after thorough washings by FTIR confirmed coordination of the ligand to the sandwiched cobalt cations.  Current work is underway to evaluate the heterogeneous catalytic activity of the nanoarray relative to appropriate controls for the oxidation of aldehydes.
