Group 14 metallacyclopentadienes (metalloles) have shown promise in applications such as pH and chemical sensors or as emissive layers in optoelectronic devices. Our group has synthesized several novel silicon-based metalloles, or siloles, that contain functionality well-suited for labeling biomolecules and chitosan coated nanoparticles. By affixing siloles to these various solid phases our goal is to enhance the luminescence. Progress toward the synthesis of silole-tagged antibodies and nanoparticles and the design of an immunoassay format using the metallole-tagged components will be presented.
