As an effort to reduce dependency on petroleum-based chemical industry due to the issues of oil depletion and global warming, isosorbide (1,4:3,6-dianhydroglucitol) recently attracts much attention because it is a bio-based chemical derived from renewable and sustainable resources. Especially, isosorbide draws increasing interest as a monomer for transparent polymers due to its chirality and intrinsic rigidity. In this study, we synthesized bio-based photo-curable binders consisting of isosorbide core and dimethacrylate functional group and characterized them as reactive diluents. They were used for composite films prepared with cardo based diacrylates and glass fiber to improve their transparency and processibility. In order to see the feasibility, their basic properties such as viscosity, curing behavior, and thermal properties were measured and discussed here.
