Titanium dioxide nanotubes (TNTs) are considered as an ideal substrate for semiconductor photocatalysis, electrochemical sensors, dye-sensitized solar cells, and water purification. However, because of a wide band gap of TNTs and a high recombination rate of the photogenerated electron�hole pairs are limiting factors in photocatalytic activity. Therefore, doping with transition metal ion has been attempted to improve its performances. In this work, a modification of TNTs by doping with metal via a hydrothermal method is investigated to improve the photocatalytic activity and to compare the effect of metal type to be doped onto titania nanotubes. Doping of the metal ion is used to narrow the band gap of TNTs that can effectively facilitate visible-light photocatalysis capability of organic compounds. To examine the photocatalysis effect, the photocatalysis of methyl orange on metal-doped TNTs is investigated.
