Four-coordinate tripodal ligands (FCTLs) often form complexes with metals in their +2 or +3 oxidation state. With nickel(II), these complexes adopt trigonal bipyramidal or octahedral coordination geometries when an auxiliary ligand is present. In this study, we examine and compare the structures adopted in complexes of FCTLs DIG2tren and DIG3tren together with nickel(II) and auxiliary acetate ligands.
