Porous epoxyde-functionalized polymeric monoliths wereprepared via ring-opening metathesis copolymerization To immobilize Pt4+inside the porous system, the epoxy-groups of the monolithic supports werehydrolyzed into the corresponding vic-diol.Loading with Pt+4 and reduction with NaBH4 resulted inthe formation of Pt nanoparticles <7 nm in diameter that were exclusivelylocated within the pores of the support. These nanoparticles were stabilized byboth the vic-diols and the polymericdouble bonds within the pores of the monolithic support. These Pt(0)-loadedmonoliths were used in the hydrosilylation of various alkenes under continuousflow conditions. Constant product formation in up to 98% yield applying alinear flow of 12.0 mm/min was realized. TEM and EDX measurements prior to thecatalytic reactions revealed that the Pt-nanoparticles were immobilized withinthe pores of the support. Consequently, metal leaching into the additionproducts from the hydrosilylation reactions was low (<4 ppm).
