Use of the bulky 2,4,6,2',4',6'-HexaMethylTerphenyl ligand (HMT) allows the isolation of Mo(NAd)(=CHR')(HMT)(Y) catalysts, where Y is a poor sigma-donor, via reaction of LiHMT with Mo(NAd)(=CHR')(Y)2.  Treatment of Mo(NAd)(=CHR')(HMT)(Y) with LiNC4H4 affords Mo(NAd)(=CHR')(HMT)(NC4H4), which can be used to prepare other Mo(NAd)(=CHR')(HMT)(Y) species via protonolysis with small ligands containing an acidic proton.  Reactivity of these catalysts is explored with various olefins and compared to other known Schrock catalysts.
