Eight different types of conjugated polyelectrolytes (CPE) as a probe array, were exposed to a series of proteins, including avidin, serum albumin, peroxidase, kinase. Upon hydrophobic or electrostatic interactions, the aggregation states of CPE in aqueous solution changed, which resulted in the change of the diffusion behavior of the CPE. The various structure characteristics, interaction properties and the molecular scales of both polymer and protein contributed to the variation of the diffusion time, which can be obtained through fluorescent correlation spectroscopy, a highly sensitive statistic based analysis tool focusing on the diffusion of fluorescent molecules. The proteins can be effectively detected and identified through distinct diffusion time response patterns generated by linear discriminant analysis.
