The previously reported ligand, 3-(di-tert-butylphosphonium)propane sulfonate (DTBPPS), was investigated for its use in aqueous-phase, palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions.  DTBPPS was used with a palladium source under aqueous-organic biphasic conditions for the Sonogashira coupling of aryl bromides at room temperature.  The nature of the solvent and base was important to the yield. High conversion to product was only obtained with cesium hydroxide as base and acetonitrile as the co-solvent.  DTBPPS was used in the Suzuki coupling of aryl bromides at room temperature and 50 �C and aryl chlorides at 80 �C.   The aqueous catalyst solution was successfully recycled for up to four cycles before a decrease in reactivity was observed.
