More and more synthetic and medicinal chemistry is being done in China. China now files more patent applications each year than the United States. A google search for benzoic acid retrieves more hits in Chinese than it does in English. Alas the language barrier between Chinese university chemistry departments, chemical suppliers and contract research organizations and western pharmaceutical companies is increasingly becoming a challenge. One possible solution to some of these problems is the use of machine translation software for converting chemical names from one language to another.
