Looking back over a non-traditional career in chemistry, one is amazed at how much one can learn in unexpected subjects, places, and from new colleagues and friends.  Some of this knowledge becomes part of a unique subject matter expertise that evolves with time.  Other lessons involve interacting with other people in many different circumstances.  The surprising twists and turns of a career are the spices of our lives.  Initially we may feel some discomfort, but afterward we may recall the experience with fondness.
