Graphene Oxide is transparent, strong, flexible, easily dispersed in water and organic solvents, and demonstrates many interesting chemical properties and so is a prime candidate for use in many functional devices and novel drug delivery systems. Functionalization of a graphene oxide substrate with group IV metalloporphyrinoids coordinated directly to the oxygenated species on the surface of GO via the metal ion will create enhanced photonic semiconductor properties, and allow the careful tailoring of graphene substrates to specific technologies and applications.
