Dendrimers provide a unique scaffold to examine how composition impacts macromolecular properties because functional groups can be strategically positioned within the dendrimer's highly branched architecture.  Recently, we have discovered that combining 'Fr�chet-type' benzyl ether groups with novel benzyl amine monomers result in stable dendrons containing both functionalities in a fixed arrangement.  A series of 'mixed' second generation dendrimers from these dendrons have been developed.  The synthesis and characterization of these dendrimers will be discussed.  The ability of the 'mixed' dendrimers to entrap pyrene from aqueous environments will be disclosed, and the results will be compared with the properties of previously known 'Fr�chet-type' benzyl ether dendrimers.
