The use of microporous organic polymers as physical sorbents is considered promising for the selective removal of CO2 from flue gases. The polymer frameworks should have favorable interactions with CO2 to achieve the high CO2 uptake capacity. In this research, we prepared adamantane-based microporous polymers by reaction of 1-bromoadamantane with benzene, biphenyl, and terphenyl. The polymers underwent post-modification by the Friedel-Crafts reaction with 4-nitrobenzoyl chloride (Figure 1). The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface areas of the polymers were 720 ~ 1890 m2/g. The functionalized polymers showed enhanced CO2 uptake capacity compared to the original polymers by 18~25%, owing to the interaction between the nitro group and CO2.Figure 1.
