The discovery of high concentrations of arsenic in fruit juices, baby formula, and brown rice prompted an investigation of adapting technology we previously developed for drinking water and industrial waste treatment to purification of foodstuffs. It is imperative that a treatment process does not contaminate the juice or other foodstuffs and this can be challenging considering the acidity and complex chemistry of these materials. We will report the application of supported nanoparticles of a variety of metal oxides and metallo-organic coordination polymers for this application. Using these it is possible to remove arsenic from foodstuff liquids such as juice without contaminating them. The removal of other contaminants such as lead is also possible.
