The preparation and structural characterization of gold(I) complexes with ligation by two phosphorus atoms and a halide ligand will be reported.  These complexes show strong photoluminescence that can be altered by aurophillic interactions.  Additionally the structures and luminescence of some of these compounds are acutely sensitive to their crystalline environment. Indeed the structure and luminescence of some crystalline complexes can be altered by exposure of the crystals to organic vapors, which may or may not enter the crystals.
