Organic films were fabricated by surface-initiated Kumada catalyst-transfer polycondensation (SI-KCTP).  Poly(3-methyl thiophene) (P3MT) films with thickness values in excess of 100 nm were obtained and the grafting density was quantified using a redox-active probe. The catalyst/ligand system used yielded a high density of initiators capable of producing oriented P3MT films, in contrast to earlier reports of SI-KCTP. It is speculated that disproportionation is minimized relative to current catalyst systems used for SI-KCTP leading to thicker films.
