We have studied the copper catalyzed/mediated reactions of hypervalent iodine reagents with alkynes and alkenes. The addition or the C-H functionalization reactions proceed with high regio and stereoselectivity. Our catalytic system is suitable to perform trifluoromethyl-benzoyloxylation and trifluoromethyl-iodination of alkenes and alkynes in the presence of Cu(I) salts. We hypothesized that the studied copper catalyzed addition and C-H functionalization reactions by hypervalent iodines proceeds via similar alkylcopper(III) intermediates.
