Cationic antimicrobials have been used to fight infection for decades. Amicrobe has developed long-chain, cationic copolypeptides that are intrinsically antimicrobial and are designed to self-assemble into complex hierarchical structures (e.g. hydrogels). An advantage of our synthetic approach is the ability to engineer chemical and physical characteristics that may improve both efficacy and safety. Notably, data suggest that these materials are broadly antimicrobial, coat wound beds to provide an antimicrobial barrier to infection, and support wound healing in vivo. We anticipate that our copolypeptide-based materials will help prevent and treat a multitude of infectious diseases.
