Carbide-derived carbon (CDC) feature promising characteristics to be applied as carbon model catalyst support. Their mean pore size can be tailored towards specific needs. Due to the inorganic origin the carbon is highly pure and the carbon ordering can be varied from amorphous to turbostratic. Additionally CDC can be produced in high reproducibility in the form of macroscopic- or nanopowders, monoliths, foams or coatings. CDC has proven high potential as catalyst support in hydrogenations, the direct methanol fuel cell or as coatings [1-3]. In this work, CDC-supported platinum catalysts are used to derive structure property relationships (carbon degree of graphitization, pore size and metal cluster size) for the hydrogenation of thymol to menthol.[1] Knorr et. al., Chem.
