For synthetic chemistry to reach its full potential, we must develop the skills not only to prepare molecules efficiently, on-scale, and in environmentally benign ways, but also to tailor them in any way imaginable to confer new properties.  This talk presents two of our main efforts to address this global challenge: reaction development with novel electrophilic halogen sources and a strategy-level approach for the controlled synthesis of oligomeric natural products.
