Copolyester of poly(butylene succinate) containing 50 mol% ethylene succinate was synthesized through a direct polycondensation reaction with titanium tetraisopropoxide as the catalyst. Thermal properties of this copolyester and the blend of two homopolyesters was characterized using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and temperature modulated DSC (TMDSC). Wide-angle X-ray diffractograms (WAXD) were obtained for the specimens after complete isothermal crystallization. The morphology of the specimens during the isothermal crystallization was recorded using a polarized light microscope. The specimens after chemical etching were investigated using scanning electron microscope. The results of DSC and WAXD indicate that the degree of crystallinity of PBESu 50/50 is very low. This copolymer did not crystallize in the form of spherulite.
