Transition metal catalyzed addition of S-H bond to alkynes or alkenes is a straightforward and atom-efficient method for the formation of stereo- and regio-defined C-S bond compounds, which are versatile intermediates for synthesis of biologically active compounds, organic building blocks, and new materials. Considerable progress has been made for such compounds construction in the presence of precious metal complexes such as Pd, Pt, Rh, Ir, and Au. Owing to the high cost of metal sources and the issues accompanied by the disadvantages of homogeneous catalysts, a heterogeneous and non-precious metal complex represents an attractive alternate catalyst. Herein, we present our recent work on developing supported copper(I) complexes bearing N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand for the stereo- and regioselective hydrothiolation of alkynes and alkenes. The preparation and characterization of supported Cu(I)-NHC complex and their catalytic performance for the addition of alkynes and alkenes with thiols will be presented.
